Link: Ana Mendieta

Ana Mendieta is a Cuban artist who made an exhibition called Cuerpo de Tierra. This exhibition collects pieces where Ana works with her own body, the shape of her body and the trace that her body leaves in the scenery. This exhibition is kind of a throwback because it contains the first pictures she did in the 70's and the 80's. Ana exiled from Cuba when she was ayoung teen and she went to the USA, where she developed her career. She is an iconic artist regarding feminism and landscapes. She reflects in her works the struggles of being latino and a woman in the patriarchal and racist context of the United States.

I really liked the way she uses her body to create art. It is like I had in mind that you can dance in order to make art with your body but nothing else a part from this. But the way Ana uses her body to not only make art but also to convey a message is mesmerizing. I like that she does not intend to make it asthetically pleasant but gives more important to the meaning she tries to transmit. As I said with Samuel Aranda's work, I'm drawn to this kind of art that has a social meaning behind and has this intention of making a change,
